I think this piece is Neo-classical, because the instruments that are chosen, reflect the chamber music of this period.
It sounded classical by the way it was played cause the sound was produced traditionaly pizzicato and bowed.
Chord progressions were consonant which is tyical of the classical period and also it had element of jazz with different piano rhythms, techniques and sounds.
The cello also has jazz accompanying techniques when it plays pizzicato.
It is characterised as neo-classical because of the imporvising element
